#IYKYK – NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH

September is recognized across the nation as Recovery Month. A time to celebrate the progress of those who are healing, to shine a light on resources that make recovery possible, and to challenge the stigma that too often keeps people from reaching out.
Recovery looks different for everyone. For some, it means reclaiming a sense of balance after hardship. For others, it’s about rebuilding connection, rediscovering joy, or learning new ways to cope with life’s challenges. No matter the path, recovery is rarely linear. It requires strength, support, and the understanding that healing the whole person, not just the symptoms, is what makes lasting change possible.
Mental health plays a central role in this journey. Anxiety, depression, and trauma can create barriers to well-being, but with the right support, recovery offers a way forward. That’s why this month is about more than raising awareness, it’s about celebrating resilience and creating a culture where people feel safe to share their stories.
At Tampa Bay Thrives, we believe stories are one of the most powerful tools we have to break down stigma. When someone opens up about their experience, it builds bridges of empathy, reminding us that no one is alone in their struggles or their healing.
Through our If You Know You Know (#IYKYK) campaign, we’re proud to highlight storytellers who are bravely sharing their journeys this Recovery Month:
-
Jennifer Epstein, Good Day Tampa Bay Anchor – Fox 13
-
Brittany Tidwell, Wife, Mom, Friend, and Nurse
-
Warren Webster, Small Business Owner
Their voices remind us that recovery is possible, that asking for help is courageous, and that healing deserves to be recognized and honored. By listening and sharing, we all play a part in creating a community where recovery is not hidden, but celebrated.
This September, let’s choose compassion over silence, connection over isolation, and hope over stigma. Together, we can build a culture that supports every step of the recovery journey.
