I opened up and was vulnerable because I want others to know that it's ok to get help if you are struggling.

I was misdiagnosed with depression and anxiety when I was young. Growing up I always struggled with a lack of focus and wasn’t really engaged in activities or hobbies. It was gradually getting worse and I really wanted help. Finally, two years ago, I was diagnosed with ADHD. The psychologist explained that depression and anxiety were symptoms of ADHD. I got on the proper medication and it really put things in perspective for me and brought me clarity. The medication helped me a lot more than just getting therapy for something that was a symptom for a different diagnosis.

The turnaround in my life was a complete 180. And just knowing that it’s a chemical imbalance in my brain and that I’m not lazy or I can’t focus on things…Once I figured it out, I started speaking openly about mental health on social media. I opened up and was vulnerable because I want others to know that it’s ok to get help if you are struggling.
