When my son was born, I was no longer in a relationship with his mother, who moved 1,100 miles away 3 weeks prior to him being born. So I moved too, so that I would be able to be there for my son. For the next several years, I proceeded to fight in court for access to my son. I was let down by my attorneys and had a series of unsuccessful legal outcomes. The experience drained me, and I fell into a deep depression. It was soul crushing. But I eventually found help, allowing me to re-focus, and I proceeded to educate myself on the legal process and represented myself in court. I achieved a favorable outcome and now have 50/50 custody of my son and a successful parenting plan.

My journey of recovery gave me insight into the pressures that many other parents face. Today, I co-founded a nonprofit named Our Children Have Rights .Org (www.OCHR.org). Using my lived experiences, successes, failures, knowledge of the courts, and what I learned firsthand during my process, we help parents better navigate their child custody & co-parenting journeys, so that more children can have access to both responsible parents equally. And I do it from a mentally strong place because I asked for help and I take care of my mental health.
